ReNewIt Today: Troy homeowner’s modernized kitchen made the sale

As someone who doesn’t spend much time in the kitchen, Sondra Hunsinger had never been too concerned about what hers looked like. Last updated in the 1980s by the previous homeowner, it featured cabinets that had a dark wood paneling veneer. But when it came time to put her Troy home on the market, she knew an updated look would help it sell.

After a bait-and-switch on pricing from a big box store, Sondra contacted ReNewIt by Kurtis on the advice of a colleague who had previously worked at the Kurtis headquarters.

Sondra was impressed from her first interaction with our sales representative to the project completion.

“The saleswoman was great. She was extremely knowledgeable, and what I really liked was she was so excited. She just loved her job and exuded nothing but positivity," Sondra says. “She always followed up - especially when my project moved from resurfacing to new kitchen cabinets - and she made sure nothing was missed.”

Sondra Hunsinger never thought much about updating this kitchen, until she was looking to sell her home.

Sondra’s initial contract included quartz countertops, a new tile backsplash and cabinet resurfacing. But when the project manager visited her home and discovered that her cabinets were original from the 1950s, she decided to shift from cabinet resurfacing to replacement. Sondra was happy that ReNewIt made it easy to adjust the project scope to better meet her needs, all while staying within her budget. She chose a more current look consisting of white cabinets and “snowflake” countertops, white with flecks of gray.

Throughout the project, Sondra was impressed with how friendly, conscientious and knowledgeable everyone was - going above and beyond where necessary to give her project the best possible outcome.

“I was surprised at how friendly everyone from Kurtis was. A lot of time contractors just come in and do their work and they don’t talk to you. On the rare occasions I was there when they were working, they always went out of their way to explain stuff,” Sondra says.

That wasn’t all.

She says she was always surprised at how well cleaned up the space looked when she got home from work, with installers having swept and put away anything they could. On the rare occasion something like a plastic sheet needed to be left out overnight, they would call and ask if Sondra was comfortable with it.

Refreshing the kitchen in updated white cabinets and snowflake countertops made this kitchen a hit with homebuyers.

“I’ve had other stuff done in other houses and this was like night and day,” she says. “This was much better than my previous experiences.”

Once the project was complete and her house was on the market, did her new kitchen make the splash she hoped it would?

Absolutely.

“Every person who saw it was like, ‘Oh my God, I just have to have this kitchen,’” Sondra says. “It helped me sell.”
