Why Timeless Kitchen Designs Still Win
A white kitchen always looks fresh, and variations on it are popular among ReNewIt customers.
While some customers come to ReNewIt by Kurtis with an eye toward a splashy design update, for many, long-term appeal is the focus.
ReNewIt by Kurtis Designer Katie Caul helps customer create a space they love. With this goal in mind, certain colors and styles have become staples among home designs.
White: A Perennial Favorite
The most frequent request Katie receives is for a new, white kitchen.
“White kitchens, a shade of white, are probably the most popular,” she says. “Sometimes people will incorporate an accent color on the island, but white is the key color in many designs.”
White’s appeal comes down to versatility. “White can be bright, crisp and chic, or soft, warm, and elegant,” Katie explains, adding that people are “starting to go with softer white, a more organic feel.”
The Ever-Reliable Subway Tile
When it comes to backsplashes, sleek, clean-looking subway tile still reigns. Created in the early 1900s for New York’s new subway stations, these remain one of the most popular and most affordable choices.
“If it isn’t a white subway, it’s definitely lighter grays,” Katie says.
Some homeowners give it a subtle twist by stacking the rectangular tiles vertically instead of using the traditional horizontal layout. This creates the illusion of more height to the backsplash while keeping a classic look. The tiles can also be stacked evenly or offset for slightly different variations.
Minimal, Easy-to-Maintain Cabinet Styles
Homeowners like to keep cabinet doors simple, too. Katie says customers typically avoid more complicated cabinet door designs, opting for minimalist designs that are easy to clean. A version of a shaker cabinet — picture one flat rectangle sunken into a rectangular frame — offers the clean lines and simplicity that many people want while including visual interest from the slight depth.
Designs That Last and Deliver Value
Above all, most ReNewIt customers want choices they’ll still love years from now and that a future owner will value just as much.
“They want to recoup the investment, whether they’re selling or passing the home on,” Katie says.
That’s why her designs lean toward white cabinets, light backsplashes, and simple, easy-to-maintain cabinet doors. These elements aren’t just popular right now, they’re classics that never feel dated, making them a smart investment for both everyday living and long-term resale.
