ReNewIt Today: Birmingham residents wow their neighbors with new kitchen
Birmingham residents Alana and Cody Ellwanger knew they wanted an expert hand in creating this updated kitchen. They called ReNewIt by Kurtis.
After completing every other room in their home renovation, Birmingham residents Alana and Cody Ellwanger had just one space left to tackle: the kitchen. Alana had a vision for the layout and look, and Cody, who had handled much of the previous work himself, knew it was time to call in the pros for cabinets and countertops.
They found ReNewIt by Kurtis after hearing a radio ad and instantly knew it was the right fit.
Cody says Katie, their salesperson, was a great creative match for Alana. The two of them bounced ideas off each other and figured out how to make the space flow better.
Taking advantage of ReNewIt’s commitment to tailoring each project to the customers’ needs, Alana and Cody decided to keep two walls of existing cabinets, opting to update them with a refacing, while fully replacing the cabinets in another section. Cody said it made sense to split the project this way because the existing cabinets worked well on two walls. However, the other wall included floor-to-ceiling cabinets with a desk nook that just didn’t fit their needs.
“It freed up a bunch of space and made the room feel a lot bigger,” Cody says. “It turned out absolutely amazing. I really couldn’t ask for anything better.”
The Ellwangers had a vision for their kitchen. They knew it needed an update and our team at ReNewIt got to work.
The collaborative spirit extended into the renovation itself. As someone who enjoys doing renovation work and planned to handle the kitchen demolition on his own, Cody needed to hire a remodeling company who would communicate clearly on timelines and potential changes.
He found that in ReNewIt. A good working relationship with James, their installer, helped move their project forward on a quick pace. The work was completed in about two weeks.
“He was awesome - very, very professional, very knowledgeable and courteous," Cody says. “Doing a lot of the work myself, I was kind of in and out, making sure I was doing everything in line with his timing too.”
By the end of the project, Cody said, James and the Ellwangers’ dog were best friends.
With help from ReNewIt by Kurtis, the Ellwangers were able to bring their vision to life.
The final result of the project was a dramatic transformation going from a classic beige cabinet to Palm Leaf by Sherwin Williams, an olive green accented by gold handles. They swapped dark gray granite countertops for white quartz.
“The kitchen was the last thing left, so this was like the icing on the cake, and to see it come out the way it did was awesome,” Cody says.
“When people see the kitchen, they’re like, ‘Holy smokes this is unbelievable.’ Friends on our street have also used Kurtis, and they experienced the same thing. It was great.”
